Personal Project //
My dad loves to bike, especially to work. A few years ago I created a graphic in Adobe Illustrator of him on his bike with the city of Portland in the Background. This year due to Covid-19 he no longer bikes to work, so for Father's Day, I thought it would be fun to animate him biking across the world. I stitched together and edited the background assets to create a seamless transition from each environment. Some of the assets are from Freepik the rest were created in Illustrator. The animation was done in After Effects and I used Premiere Pro for the final export with sound design and music.
The animation portion of the motion graphic was difficult because there were many different moving parts. I wanted the project to have a more realistic feel to it instead of the background being static, so I transformed the layers into 3D and added depth of field. This led to multiple iterations and trial and error to get the foreground, middle ground and background to properly line up while also moving at the same pace. Another challenge was getting the bike pedals and legs to match up and rotate correctly. This was fixed by coding an infinite rotation loop and readjusting the keyframes. In the end, I was able to get it to a point where I was happy with it and finished it in two days.
